The Stigma of Strollers

be kind.png

It's not about convenience.

It's about compassion.

Walks are important for every dog. Physically, mentally, and emotionally.

For dogs with IVDD, mobility challenges or weakness, a stroller can be the difference between isoloation and inclusion, between pain and comfort, between giving up and getting out.

The Stigma is Real. But so is the Truth.

What People Might Say or Think:

"Wouldn't they want to walk?"

"They're just spoiled."

"That looks silly."

"Is your dog old?"

Sadly, these quotes have been told to most of us dog owners at least once while out with our pups.

"Dogs are not kids, they do not need strollers."

The Truth is:

Don't judge what

Strollers help dogs with pain, weakness, or fatigue enjoy life safely.

you don't understand.

Rest, limited walking, and mental enrichment are part of healing.

IVDD can flare up without any warning.

Strollers prevent overexertion.

Inclusion matters! Every dog deserves adventures.

How to Respond to Judgement

Remember: you do not owe anyone an explanation.

You do owe your dog kindness, should you choose to respond, keep it simple.

Here are some simple ways to respond:

"We are doing what is best for our dog."

A smile and keep going.

"This helps them heal and stay included."

If you have the energy, you could kindly educate on why strollers are important for dogs.

Remember, dogs could feel our energy. Don't engage with negativity.

Kindness Goes A Long Way

If you found yourself here and you do not have a dog, please remember that you never know what someone else is going through.

In your mind, the comment or question might seem simple, but to the other person who is overwhelmed, it could be the one thing that sets them off.

You may never understand why dogs need strollers or you still may disagree and that is okay. But, if there is one thing to take away from this, is to be kind.

Here are some ways to spread kindness:

"Your dog is so lucky to have you."

"That's a great way to help them stay included!"

Smile and keep going about your day.
